The Discrimination Of Women During The U.s. Military Essay

This paper will point out the discrimination of women in the U.S. military. The paper will describe the sexual harassment that is constantly occurring and has been increasing in counts over the past twenty or so years. It will involve many debates about whether women should be in combat role or not and how that history shows that women have already been around the harshness of warfare. Then bringing up, if women are not able to be away from home with just a big time job how will they be able to react to being on the front lines in combat. Introduction Women have been serving in the U.S. military since 1948 when President Truman signed the Women’s Armed Service Integration Act. Though women have been involved with many of our countries past conflicts before that this was the first official time women could sign up and serve in the U.S. military. It established a permanent place for women to serve in the Army, Navy, Airforce, and Marine Corps, other than being nurses which was already permanent. With this big change in the U.S. military there came a lot of issues that are still occurring today; sexual harassment, discrimination, and basically hiding of female soldiers. Though women got the right to fight they were still having to fight to actually be in a combat role. While women were able to enlist they were prohibited from direct combat roles or assignments.
